About me
A brief introduction to me and my passion for Gelli Plate printing.
My name is Ellen Tovey and I have been a professional artist for over twenty years. I studied Fine Art in Falmouth, Cornwall. I’m a mother to two young children, and my studio is near the Abbey in Central Bath. I am keenly interested in painting portraits, striving to create a window into people’s inner worlds.
Another inspiration of mine is the beauty found in nature. Botanical printmaking first introduced me to the world of Gelli Plate printing. The practice brings me great joy, combining my love for walking and observing the natural world with my creative expression. I can channel my creativity through the impressions I gather, the color combinations I observe, and the feelings nature inspires, allowing me to collaborate with nature. Gelli plate printing is exciting. It offers immediacy, experimentation and surprise.
It was the perfect choice to run workshops in Gelli Plate printing. The joy of meeting new people and sharing creativity has been a true gift, creating a beautiful balance to my solitary hours at the easel. The workshops illuminate the significance of art in enhancing well-being.
The collective enthusiasm in my workshops is invigorating and affirming. I aim for participants to finish with an appreciation of botanical Gelli Plate printing and it’s unique capacity to connect us creatively with nature and ourselves. I encourage and embolden people so they leave with an understanding of the medium and are inspired to continue their journey at home.
